M: Unused material of Desplat?
Did Desplat composed music for scenes, especially the cut ending, which are not in the Theatrical Cut but in a possible Extended Version oder Director's Cut?
Did he mention something like that?

There's at least one track that appears on the soundtrack that does not appear in the film. That's the Ballon Adventure one...Did Desplat composed music for scenes, especially the cut ending, which are not in the Theatrical Cut but in a possible Extended Version oder Director's Cut?

As for the rest, I believe there is. But who knows.

Hoepfully there is, so that if we get Weitz version or a logner version the music doesn't have to be repeated so often.

Maybe, I don't know, but I hope they get someone else for films 2 and 3 if they get the green light

Re: Unused material of Desplat?
Why?
His score was beautiful and great you just have to hear it more often to like it.

Re: Unused material of Desplat?
Yes, the score was good, but there are composers like John Williams who actually have the ability to make a fantastic score AND make it flow with the actual film. (I don't know what he was thinking composing the piece for the bear fight-that just does NOT work with the film. Maybe he had one too many the night before or something)

Re: Unused material of Desplat?
We already don't know how he handled the cut hickhack. Which version he first scored and where in the end he had finished scenes etc.
It was good to take him not Wlliams or so, because he gave the genre something new and special and the right mood for his dark materials.

Re: Unused material of Desplat?
h'mm...you ask me he didn't do a good job.
Like Weitz didn't do a good job on what he was trying to achieve. several of the first things he said in the commentary he massively screwed up on.
i really think they should get rid of desplat-cos one piece-well half of it-fits the mood of hdm.

In short: everything that went wrong in the film except one or two spots of bad acting. Which is quite a lot.

Don't you understand that we can't blame Weitz for the theatrical version?

Re: Unused material of Desplat?
Wandering back on-topic, I'm sure Alexandre Desplat composed the score for the whole film, not just bits of it.

Re: Unused material of Desplat?
depends on when they started to record music.
With the whole film you mean Weitz version?
Will watch it again when sequels are confirmed (or not.).

Re: Unused material of Desplat?
Y'know, I don't actually have the film soundtrack, but I assume Desplat composed for the film before the ending was cut.
P.S. By the way, if only..., stop complaining about the score. I think you've expressed your unfounded opinions in three different threads now.

Re: Unused material of Desplat?
There would doubtless be unused material, as I recall Weitz praising Desplat's patience with the evolution of the film's edit. (Something along the lines of having to revised material already recorded or at the recording stage.)
To 'ifonly...', I'm rather glad you weren't making calls on the music of the film. To attack the 'Ice Bear Combat' cue of all things? It's that kind of eye for quality that filmmakers assume audiences have, keeping most film music in unadventurous recycling of overworn ideas.
If Desplat's score had any sticking points, it would be in a couple of midsection transition cues which oversell the epic adventure that wasn't taking place onscreen. It's very well-written, but is trying hard to get us to feel something that probably isn't there. But then he was asked to do 'Lawrence of Arabia', and it's that score that those transitional cues most clearly evoke. A slightly less aggressive sound mix might have mitigated the unexpected bombast.
