The Habit of Art, at the National Theatre.

A serious core is wrapped in many layers of fun in this splendid show; the first play I've seen that is performed in the same place as its action is set (having not seen Aida in Egypt, or Romeo and Juliet in Verona, or Tosca in Rome), i.e. the NT itself.

Having a top cast in top form helps. Special praise from for Alex Jennings and Frances de la Tour, but really everyone was brilliant.

And then there's The Show Stopping Joke (tm):

Just saw Hamlet, at the National Theatre - with Rory Kinnear as Hamlet.

It was...okay. It was watchable, but I think it could have been done a lot better. Hamlet's madness is not meant to be....that funny. But that's how they chose to direct it and that's okay, that's their choice. But it wasn't for me. I'd really like to see someone else's production of Hamlet. I've seen a few Shakespeare plays now (though....still not many) and I think all of them have been more captivating than this was (not that it was boring)... Sean Bean's Macbeth probably still stands in the best stead.

Would love to see Del Jacobi's Lear at the Donmar Warehouse. Sold out of course, but it's being shown at cinemas next year - http://www.guardian.co.uk/stage/2010/ju ... ve-cinemas.

The Donmar is a fab venue and one of our favourites.

EDIT: Yay - booked two seats at the Regal Picture House in Henley on Thames!
