what exactly is a L-Jesus?
"And Shepards we shall be, for thee my lord for thee. As power has flowed forth from thy hand, so that our feet may swiftly carry out thy command. And we shall flow a river forth to thee, and teeming with souls shall it ever be.
In Nomine Patris, et filii, et Spiritus Sanctus."

I didn't know that, thanks. But I don't believe connotation of 'bread' as the 'body of Christ' predates Jesus so there still may be some connection with Jesus as the head of the body of the Church, which is what Body of Christ stood for, if I remember right. The name and concept of Christ (== "Messiah") predate Jesus. He may not yet have been born in Lyra's world.
Who designed the altheiometer again? Its symbols are full of religious connotations. Its funny how a device that could be of the Church, helps them fight the Church.

Jesus isn't even in the books. Are you talking about something else?
The road goes ever on and on, down from the door where it began
Now far ahead, the road has gone, and I must follow if I can
Pursuing it with eager feet, until it joins some larger way,
Where many paths and errands meet, and whither then? I cannot say.

i think this thread was created to discuss the implications of christ's absence from a book which clearly targets the catholic church. what does this mean for the structure and doctrine of the church. did L-jesus exist at all? does he manifest in the trinity and to the same extent as he does in our world's mainstream christian doctrine? etc.

wasn't there a reference to the Holy trinity somewhere? (id look it up if i had my book with me, but i dont)
but remember when lyra is figuring out the three aspects of her self,
"I can think about my body, and i can think about my daemon, so there has t be a third part to do the thinking".... or something like that... any way, isnt there a bit there about the mind, body, soul trinity and the church's comparison of this and the father-son-holy ghost trinity?
I might be wrong, but i thought that there was.

I don't think there was. In fact, L-world is remarkably devoid of references to our world's Christian beliefs. If Lyra had stayed in Will's world longer, she may have gotten even more confused.

But when Mary says her famous "Christianity is a great big (but convincing) mistake" speech, Lyra doesn't even blink. Perhaps at that point she's too busy thinking about how she can get into Will's undercrackersI don't think there was.
