  ‘Oh, it was so wrong, so wrong. You see, I was only saved because I was the Captain. I wasn’t with my crew like I should have been.’
  
  ‘You were in your proper station on the bridge, weren’t you?’
  
  ‘Yes I was, but…’
  
  ‘You think you ought to have been on deck with your people. You should have died with them…’
  
  ‘Yes. Yes, I should!’
  
  ‘I’m glad you didn’t, Annie. I should have been even more ashamed if you had.’
