Hi y'all, I've just finished a title piece intended for a stand at an exhibition of the drawings, but it will make for a book cover as well.

I really need some detailed feedback about the drawings, that will inform me of what I should do next, so feel free to add any comment to the drawings on Flickr.

Regards, Starminster.

I like your original and idiosyncratic representations of the Artefacts.

A couple of points that struck me:

- I know it's awkward, bearing in mind the form of the design, but I think you should try to say "Phillip Pullman" rather than simply "Pullman".

- If you could work some figures into the design it would give it more general appeal. I appreciate that's not your intent :)

Hi Peter,

I have to remember that on a cover, or other promotion you must give enough information for it to be clearly understood! A lot of the HDM drawings I have done take a few liberties and it's a hard habit to break. Fortunately I can fit Philip in.

Thanks for the advice, Starminster.

Hi Toby,

Thanks for the mods. Like most pen and inkers I have a tendency to leave too much white out, so I always get told to make shadows darker. I will keep going on it a bit and repost. I was talking to an (unnamed) gallery in Oxford regarding an exhibition, as I had wanted to show the work at the stories location. Sadly these plans fell through as the gallery owner felt the exhibition didn't fit into their plans this year. Though I was disappointed it made me ask questions about how to present and promote both the work and printed material, so next time I will be readier. I also plan to print a limited run of books myself when I feel there is a strong enough body of work to represent the story.

The amber spyglass is ragged and well used, in the way that most of the characters are dirty and disheveled.

The subtle knife is straight out of Kill Bill, what could be more elegant than a Hanzo style knife with a smooth lacquer? Then a marquetry design of the god killer and down the sheath many points representing entry points in different worlds. Finally a resin tip so that the point is visible.

My first idea for the alethiometer was very angular, so I softened the shapes and it evolved into a flower shape, presumably the front is a clam shell to reveal the symbols. Eureka! I never wanted to draw all those symbols!

Kind regards, Chris
