Green Day
Eric Clapton
Jimi Hendrix
Led Zeppelin
The Beatles

And some individual songs by other bands:
Shout At the Devil (Motley Crue)
Message in a Bottle (The Police)
Them Bones (Alice in Chains)
And God said:
"Let there be rock."
And there was Led Zeppelin.

Dropkick Murphys, Green Day, Metallica (before they released St. Anger and Justice for All), Flogging Molly and The Tossers are all awesome.

Both... I've like Funky Beck more lately... Tropicalia, noteably. I think at one point everyone loves that song to no end. :)

NEW album end of March...
Into this wild abyss, The womb of nature and perhaps her grave, of neither sea, nor shore, nor air, nor fire, But all these in their pregnant causes mixed Confusedly, and which thus must ever fight, Unless the almighty maker them ordain His dark materials to create more worlds, Into this wild abyss the wary fiend Stood on the brink of hell and looked a while, Pondering his voyage...John Milton-Paradise Lost-Book 2

Ok, get ready for a long list (I just love music!) and I'm going to have to cheat and include solo artists. BTW the list is in no particular order, except maybe the first ten or so

The Beatles, John Lennon, George Harrison, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Oasis, AC/DC, Queen, Small Faces, The Kinks, The Who, The Move, Velvet Underground, The Stooges, MC5, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, David Bowie, Tom Petty, Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, Frank Zappa, The Byrds, Simon and Garfunkle, Green Day, U2, Arctic Monkeys, Pigeon Detectives, The View, The Killers, The Strokes, Ash, Cast, Ocean Colour Scene, Blur, Dodgy, The Levellers, The Lemonheads, The Fratellis, Led Zeppelin, Cream, Blue Cheer, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Slade, The Black Crowes, The White Stripes, Rush, ELO, Nirvana, The Pixies, Pearl Jam, The Vines, Jane's Addiction, The Libertines, Primal Scream, Sonic Youth, Stone Roses, Joe Walsh, The Ramones, The Undertones, The Buzzcocks, Television, The Damned, The Jam, The Clash, Sex Pistols, Ian Dury, Super Furry Animals, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Funkadelic, Beastie Boys, Stereo MCs, De La Soul, Rage Against the Machine, Public Enemy, Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane, Louis Armstrong, Sly and the Family Stone, Galliano, The Kooks, Jefferson Airplane, Love, 13th Floor Elevators, Elvis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Albert King, BB King, Foo Fighters, Monster Magnet, The Hellacopters... and about a zillion others :)

Well I don't know how I can top that list, Lennon, but here is what I have grown up listening to:
(Not in any order except going from memory - so bound to forget some)

The Beatles
Neil Young (the odd song I learnt to play, like Rockin in the free world or Like a Hurricane)
Abba (not really the early stuff, but the last few albums have superb songs in them. I think Bjorn and Benny were Genius)
Status Quo
Mike Oldfield (a bit of a hero of mine, as he was inspiration to learn to play different instruments)
Rush (Canadian rockes with the best drummer I have ever seen and heard)
Yes (serious prog world here. Still going after 40 years)
Asia
Emerson Lake and Palmer (for more prog lunacy)
Genesis (probably my fave band, but not really the 80's and 90's pop songs, more from say 76 - 80ish; 20 minute songs, complicated arrangements, even songs about a Giant Hogweed!)
Jean Michel Jarre (synth pioneer, who I've seen a few times. Very good at miming Live, but his light and laser shows were amazing. Houston in 86 is still one of the most amazing I've seen)
Vangelis (similar to above, but far more depth and emotion , which is why he's done so many film scores. Think Bladerunner, Chariots of Fire, The Bounty etc..)
Rick wakeman (the best keyboard player I've ever seen)
A-Ha (I kinda grew up with these from 83 on, when I was into keyboards. Morten Harket still has fantastic voice, and still looks gorgeous, lucky bugger)
Howard Jones (yet another keys player, and companion from the 80s)
Simon and Garfunkel (in my eyes better than the Everlys, and Paul Simon is a great songwriter)
Queen (Freddie was fantastic singer, and they're still going, well, 2 of them)
Fun Lovin Criminals (Huey Morgan is surely the coolest man in laid-back rock?)
Muse (new proggers, with Matt Bellamy doing stuff with guitars and keyboards that is quite unique)
Keane (love the simplicity of voice, drums, piano, bass, bit of programming. Tom Chaplin also good singer)
Avril Lavigne (first album , the odd song again I learnt to play)
Alanis Morrisette (again, the odd song. Univited (covered by Freemasons last year) and Thankyou are my favourites)
Big Country (The late great Stuart Adamson had a recognisable voice and was a gifted songwriter. One band I jump around with guitars to)
Depeche Mode (another lot I grew up to, in my synth stage.)
Enigma (seriously good for chilling out to)
Evanescence, Nightwish (and also...)
Within Temptation (..for more modern rocky jumping. I love a heavy rock sound with a girl's voice over the top)
Kraftwerk (for very precise German techno pop)
Peter Gabriel (for another good voice,)
Sparks (for scary keyboard players,)
Sheryl Crow (more babes and guitars)
the odd Sting song
Ultravox (back in the 70s and 8s again)
ZZ Top ( for making me wish I could grow a decent beard. "Tell me what you want!")
Van Halen (for insane guitar solos that make me give up)
Guns n Roses (for memories of 5 of us playing along to first album, at college, back when I smoked (as we all did), me playing bass, room full of smoke, all totally focused on the music. How bloody unhealthy of me, but that was cool)

All I can remember at the moment, watch for updates.

Wow! Good lists both of you... has anyone heard of Guster? They're pretty awesome, and are my favorite band from time to time.
