His Dark Materials By Philip Pullman
About as controversial as it gets- if you're a Christian fundamentalist... Pullman's Epic Trilogy has been removed from certain classrooms and libraries the world over. Pullman gives Richard Dawkins a run for his money as the literary anti-Christ. Truly amazing books!!

HDM in "Banned Books" Section in Borders
I was in Borders in Glasgow at the weekend and this section caught my eye. NL was just one of many, but I found it quite interesting to read. I took a picture, but it was too big to upload. The text read:
"You know Mr Bernstein, if I hadn't been very rich, I might have been a really great man..."

it's a great way to market something... like telling children not to touch the cookies in the cookie jar.

of his beloved arises? doesn't his secret insight
into her pure features come from the pure constellations?"

I love the First Amendment!! Sorry you don't have one. There is no reason to "ban" this trilogy.

Re: HDM in "Banned Books" Section in Borders
Books are challenged and sometimes removed from American libraries/schools not infrequently...I'd wager more often than in the U.K. The Golden Compass/Northern Lights was the 4th most challenged book of 2007 in the U.S, according to the ALA.I love the First Amendment!! Sorry you don't have one.
I doubt Rolly means the trilogy is literally "banned" in Glasgow...In fact, it's "Banned Books Week" right now in the U.S...which just means everybody is that much more aware of the books that small groups of delusional fascists and holy rollers have failed to get removed from their sight.
I don't think there is an author who wouldn't sell his/her soul (and no doubt already have, according to the god botherers) to end up on a "Banned Books" list...

Ha-ha! Right! They don't understand that if they challenge books, they will just make them popular!it's a great way to market something... like telling children not to touch the cookies in the cookie jar.
